About us Chevron

Why Choose Nivalis?

Ice Pigging has been developed by the highly skilled Nivalis engineering team over many years, so we have a huge amount of knowledge and expertise in this field. But why should you choose us to clean your pipes? Here are a few reasons we think make us stand apart from the others…

Why Choose Nivalis?
Experience and Knowledge

Experience and Knowledge

We are the pioneers of Ice Pigging. Our highly experienced engineers and supporting back office team have over 50 combined years of experience working with customers in a range of industrial and municipal applications across the globe.

Many of our team were part of the group at Bristol University in 2001, led by professor Joe Quarini, who invented Ice Pigging, so we have literally built this technology from the start and know it inside out. We have been there for all of the testing, the trial and errors, the successes and the breaking new ground. We know what Ice Pigging can do and we have plans (and excitement) for how we can continue to develop the technology in a constantly evolving world.

“ I have been working with the Nivalis team members since 2006 on the development and deployment of the Ice Pigging technology in vastly different industries and applications. Their in-depth knowledge underpinning the technology based on their PhD research work and their awareness of what the technology achieves based on real-world experience, makes them unique.”

Professor Joe Quarini, University of Bristol, Inventor of Ice Pigging

Innovative and Trustworthy

We try to explain our technology in plain and simple language to ensure that the principles of Ice Pigging are clearly understood. We want to understand our customers' processes and offer practical advice on how Ice Pigging can benefit them so we will take the time to work with you to fully understand your requirements.

We are innovative engineers. We are not here to make promises we cannot keep. We know what our technology is capable of and we are always willing to try new things to push its boundaries and discover new applications. However, when we don't think Ice Pigging is the right solution, we will tell you.

Although Ice Pigging is used in many industries and the equipment has been tried and tested over many years, we still want to see what else we can achieve. In 2019 we were asked to Ice Pig fuel systems to remove bio contamination. “Can this be done?” asked the customer. “We're not sure” was our response. Fast forward to now, and we are seen as the best available technique for cleaning our customer’s ships fuel systems.

Efficient and Effective

Efficient and Effective

We have developed our Ice Pigging technology to deliver results consistently and quickly. This will save you time, water and money.

Our aim is to keep any disruption of your day-to-day activities to a minimum. While working with you to plan the cleaning process, we will focus in on how best to deliver high-quality cleaning at a time which is appropriate to your schedule. This may even be working up a fix which incorporates the cleaning into the day-to-day running of a system so it becomes part of the normal routine and keeps those pipes squeaky clean.

We offer Ice Pigging as a one off or regular service across all industries and a range of geographies. Our service provision is often carried out by containerised Ice Pigging equipment that is transported directly to our customer's site, which reduces system set up time. Our in-person or on the phone discussion to pre-plan technical issues ensures an easy and quick connection to the customer's system.

Low Risk and Reliable Support

Risk reduction and risk mitigation are key drivers for many of our customers.

This could be in terms of Biofilm removal from process water systems (in factories dealing with products such as drinks, paints or surface coatings), through to the removal of physical debris in fuel or even air systems. Ice Pigging removes the problem at source or can be used as an ongoing risk reduction “tool”.

Process risk is always at the forefront of plant operators minds - having to shut down a production line is bad enough but what about a whole factory.

Ice Pigging not only helps keep pipelines clean during operation but can help keep the building of a large project clean and can mitigate the risk of contamination or biofilms forming. This is mainly because the process is relatively low in terms of being invasive, there is one route in, usually one route out, so it is quick and simple in terms of operation and validation.

Ice Pigging also reduces risk in applications where process pipework is being decommissioned or systems remediation. By cleaning contaminated pipe systems of harmful chemicals and/or environmental hazards, the pipework system can be safely disposed of. This reduces the risk of future environmental or health and safety challenges associated with contaminated or hazardous pipework.

Flushing of larger diameter pipework is not always effective, turbulence cannot be generated and systems can be left with “pockets” of debris that is undetectable until the system is used again when, unfortunately, the debris will have been spread. Ice Pigging generates high sheer wall forces, removing the debris much more effectively than flushing with water.

Ice pigging has very few risks. The worst that can happen is that the ice melts. Not only that, but by choosing Nivalis to carry out your pipe cleaning work you are choosing to work with the very best engineers in the field who know the technology inside out. We have the experience and knowledge to ensure that you can leave us to get the job done without a worry.

With our Maintenance and Support Agreement you know that we are just a phone call away to help with any queries and we will visit regularly to ensure your Ice Pigging machinery is consistently working at its full capacity. We also offer on the ground training for your team to ensure they feel confident in using any equipment you have installed.

Validation

Validation

We work to high standards and will not accept less. Validation that the system has been cleaned to the required standard and can be reverted back into "service" is an integral part of the service we provide.

We use specialist monitoring equipment to check that all contaminants have been removed. We will work with a member of your team to confirm all results at the end of our Ice Pigging service and will not sign off on the job until all parties are satisfied that the cleaning process has been completed.
