Using Ice Pigging to clean pipework in the UK Defence sector.

We are very proud to have been supporting the Defence sector in the UK with Ice Pigging for a number of years now. Our Ice Pigging technology has been used within surface and sub-surface fleets, so these projects can provide us with some tricky challenges.

Using Ice Pigging to clean pipework in the UK Defence sector.

Advantages of using Ice Pigging in the Defence sector:

  • Between 10 and 100 times more effective than conventional flushing techniques.
  • Ice Pigging gives a much quicker clean because of the force generated by the ice, therefore minimising downtime for machinery and vehicles.
  • Ice Pigging can tackle the intricacies of complicated systems, removing unwanted sediments and debris to ensure platforms operate seamlessly, efficiently, and cost-effectively
  • A much reduced risk - with low pressure, no hazardous chemicals (for most applications) and a shorter exposure to risk time, the worst case scenario is ice melts.
Why does the Defence sector use Ice Pigging?

Why does the Defence sector use Ice Pigging?

Ice Pigging is a quicker technique than the alternatives, it is safer and offers a "step change" in system cleanliness. It is cost effective, uses less water and is a transferrable technology which lends itself to be utilised in a number of different environments.

We have applied Ice Pigging in the Defence sector on an array of systems:

  • Fresh water systems,
  • Sea water systems,
  • Fuel systems,
  • Aviation fuel systems,
  • Air systems.

Ice Pigging case studies

Nivalis have supported operational vessels in the UK. We have also provided Ice Pigging to ships and submarines in refit and maintenance periods.

WES - our partner for In-Harbour Chlorination (IHCR) applications.

WES - our partner for In-Harbour Chlorination (IHCR) applications.

WES are a long established process engineering company. The WES In-harbour chlorination rigs (IHCR’s) provide a single-unit containerised solution for control of microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC).

In-Harbour Chlorination is the standard operating procedure mandated by DefStan 02-781 to disinfect submarine reactor secondary sea water cooling systems (SWC) to prevent micro-biological fouling (leading to microbiologically induced corrosion—MIC) and macro fouling (partial or complete blocking).
