Ice Pigging Restores Performance of Contaminated Purified Water System
Nivalis recently completed a successful Ice Pigging project to restore the integrity of a contaminated hot purified water system at a UK-based cosmetic manufacturing facility.
When the manufacturer discovered contamination in their pipelines they had to shut down part of the plant and called Nivalis to come and help.

Over a 48-hour period, 18 Ice Pigging operations were carried out across the key sections of pipework where contamination had been located. This included the main distribution loop, pump line, and recirculation line.
Our engineers expertly carried out the Ice Pigging operations, effectively removing the contamination which had been caused by incorrectly used silicone sealant and copper grease.
Initial runs using the ice slurry showed clear evidence of discolouration and particulate removal.
Subsequent passes showed clean results across all of the contaminated sections.
Following Ice Pigging, the system was flushed and sanitised, with all operational parameters, flow, temperature, conductivity, and TOC, returning to normal operating ranges. Once our engineers were happy that all of the contamination had been eradicated the plant was able to reopen.
The project was completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule, demonstrating Ice Pigging as a fast and effective solution for cleaning complex water systems.
